Pennsylvania General Construction

Licensing for General Contractor, Home Builder, Remodeling and related trades is still handled at the city and county level. However, several cities require you to pass an exam.

The cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, Erie, Reading, and Scranton participate in the exam program administered by Experior/Thompson Prometric. Applicants must get pre-approval from city or county officials before taking the exam. Contact your local licensing officials for an application.

NOTE:
The Contractors Board will give you two tests, one being the Business Management / Law exam and the other being your particular Trade. You have to pass both exams before you can obtain your contractors license.
